You have on this CD the first jazz Super group and it lives up to that categorisation by being superb. In forming this band leader Andy Cooper could have used the hackneyed description ‘All Stars’. But to use that nomenclature would be to short-change his team. Their talent is well out of the usual jazz rut and in this band they have the freedom to play their instruments brilliantly and also to take musical risks - to dare to create flights of imagination, which excite both the ear of the untutored listener and that of fellow musicians.
