I first put this band together in December 1996 to play a Christmas concert in Gelsenkirchen Germany. It proved to be a tremendous success. Then, over a year later I was asked if we would like to make a short tour of Europe in December 1998. This we agreed to do. Then we played a more extensive tour in January 2000, which included going into the studio to record the "From The Top" CD.

In the original Top 8 line-up Russell Gillbrook (ex-Chris Barber) was on Drums and Fred McMurray (ex-Dutch Swing College Band) on Piano. Due to recording commitments Russell was replaced by Nick Millward and with Fred retiring, the piano chair was given to the only "famous" Belgian, Dirk Van Der Linden! In December 2003 Pasquale Michaux, also living in Belgium, replaced Dirk on Piano. Pasqual the 'Gentle Giant' is not only a wonderful piano player, he also plays great Tenor Saxophone.

Whilst originally the intention was to keep the band "exclusive", due to immense interest and popularity, we have decided to play and tour together more extensively now and in the future.

With the "line-up" of musicians we have in the band, it allows us the versatility to play Dixieland, Swing, Blues, New Orleans, Jump and Jive, you name it!!! - but all in our own style. We believe strongly in the importance of entertaining. We are all great "mates" and love what we do, and I know you'll love it too!

It has been one of the great highlights of my career puting this super band together with musicians I've admired for a long time.

Ein Gipfeltreffen von acht hochkarätigen Musikem aus fünf europäischen Ländern ß aus England, Holland, Belgien, Schottland und Deutschland - ANDY COOPER'S EURO TOP 8 - garantiert ein unvergessliches Jazzerlebnis!

Mit dabei sind Namensgeber und Gründer der TOP 8, Andy Cooper, Weltklasse-Klarinettist aus England, mittlerweile seit über dreißig Jahren Star der Kenny Ball Band. Andy Cooper sollte jedem ein Begriff sein, der Walt Disney's "Dschunglbuch" gesehen hat, denn er hatte 1968 mit diesem Song einen Nr. Hit in England.

Eine Jazz-Legende in der "Frontline" der TOP 8 ist Saxofonvirtuose Johnny Barnes. Der Engländer spielte viele Jahre mit den Bands von Alex Welsh und Humphrey Lyttleton und ist unangefochten einer der Größten auf seinem Instrument.

Mike Cotton, der grandiose Trompeter von den britischen Inseln, ist der dritte im Bunde der Bläser. Er gehörte jahrelang der Acker Bilk Band an und leitete eine eigene Jazzband, bevor er sich Anfang der neunziger Jahre für eine äußerst erfolgreiche Solo-Karriere entscheid.

Die jüngere Jazz-Generation ist bei den TOP 8 gleich mehrfach vertreten. Yum einen mit dem Posaunisten Ulf Johannson Werre aus Schweden, zum anderen sitzen der junge Belgier Dirk Vander Linden am Piano und der Engländer Nick Millward am Schlagzeug.

Ulf Johansson Werre, Multiinstrumentalist (...er spielt Posaune, Piano, Schlagzeug und Gitarre) ist einer der profiliertesten Musiker der europäischen Jazz-Szene und „Neuerwerbung“ der Euro Top 8. Sein Posaunenkollege Phil Wilson über Ulf: „Nur selten hat man die Gelegenheit, einem Weltklasse-Posaunisten und Weltklasse-Pianisten in einer Person zu begegnen.

Pasqual Michaux ist ein begnadeter Musiker und Multi-Instrumentalist. Er spielt meisterhaft Piano, Hammond-Orgel, alle Saxofone, Klarinette, Oboe und Bass. Neben vielen bedeutenden internationalen Jazz-Musikern trat er auch u.a. im Pop-Bereich auf und begleitete Weltstars wie Johnny Halliday und Mariah Carey.
